• Philadelphia's jail population has reached its lowest level in a decade, with fewer than 3,700 people in city custody as of this week—a dramatic 20% reduction in just six months and more than 50% lower than the 8,000 people jailed in 2015.

• New legislation titled the Safe Healthy Homes Act has been introduced in City Council to better protect Philadelphia renters from negligent landlords. The bill package would shield tenants from retaliation, tie rental license approval to necessary repairs, and create a relocation fund for those forced to vacate unsafe properties.
